[Account book]. 1859-1885.

In this manuscript there are two sequences of dates. One covers 1859 to 1865, the other the 1880s. It is not at all clear who kept this volume. Shaker families are mentioned on pages 37-39. But most of the accounts in the 1860s show charges primarily for food, paid for primarily by labor, with charges and credits for wood as well. Also found are some accounts for the selling of vegetable and tobacco plants. The accounts for the 180s are even more unclear, although a greater variety of goods are mentioned. On page 155, is a bill from Sophia Helfrich of West Pittsfield, to Polly Lewis, for bonnets, emerys, and waxes. It is also not clear where this volume originated as towns in New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts are mentioned. A trade card for C.P. Coe & Co., grocers in New Haven, Conn., is laid into the volume.
